Sony Files Patent Infringement Suit Against LG
This past Wednesday, Japanese electronic company Sony filed a patent infringement suit with both the International Trade Commission (ITC) and the U.S. District Court in Los Angeles against South Korean company, LG. This dispute relating to LG mobile phones and modems targets seven patents that Sony claims LG is violating by importing and selling the devices in the United States. To remedy this infringement, Sony is requesting that the ITC or the court prevent LG from “importing, selling, marketing, advertising, or demonstrating these devices in the States. This suit occurs simultaneously with reports from Japan that Sony plans to release a smart phone based on its Playstation 3 portable gaming consoles. It will be interesting to see how this case develops in the New Year.
